Are you going to visit Split and do you wonder what are the best beaches near Split? Let's start by saying that the coastline in this part of Dalmatia has plenty of beaches. I's almost impossible to show them all but here's a summary of the most popular and best beaches near Split.

1. Žnjan Beach:

Žnjan is the largest beach near Split. The beach consists of small lagoons divided by a concrete pear.

It is located 8 kilometers east from Split city center near Trstenik beach. In 2018 Žnjan was completely reconstructed. Outdated constructions were replaced by sportsfacilities, a playground, a pool and an amphi-theater where concerts and music festivals are performed on a regular basis. Znjan beach is covered with fine pebbles so take your water shoes.

The outdoor showers, toilets and changing rooms are a nice extra. If you are in for some action, Žnjan also  is the place to go to. Here you can do watersports. Time to relax? You can hire lounge chairs and umbrella's to comfortably enjoy the sun.

Žnjan has lots of amenities such as bars and restaurants.

Žnjan beach has facilities for disabled. There is a specialplot to enter the water.

How to get to Znjan beach:
Bus 8 and 15 can bring you to Znjan beach. It s a short drive. Another option is to take the watertaxi from the port of Split to Žnjan beach. Every 10 minutes a watertaxi departs.
If you decide to go by car, it is good to know that near Žnjan beach there is a parking place for up to 400 cars.


2. Bačvice Beach:

Bačvice Beach is the hotspot for locals. At just 1 kilometer of the city center Bačvice is the beach to go to if you're staying in Split city center. 

Bačvice originates from 1919. With cafés, restaurants, nightclubs and discotheques at walking distance, this is the beach where you find a mixture of locals, tourists, young people and families.

Interested in some local traditions? Here you can find groups of young people plying picigin, a game played in shallow water. In this game people pass a small ball by hitting it with their hand and the aim is to do this as many times as possible so you can imagine that this involves some jumping and diving.

Bačvice beach is a 600 meter long beach of which 200 meters are sand. The rest is asphalted.

Renting umbrella's or lounge chairs is possible.

3. Kaštelet beach

At just 2 kilometers of Split city center you'll find Kaštelet beach. This beach is located south on the Marjan peninsula. 

This beach consists of pebbles, large stones and boulders so take your water shoes. A concrete platform divides the beach in two parts.Because of this the beach does not feel as crowdy as some other beaches.
In 2019 the Kaštelet beach was chosen as the best beach near Split. Pine trees provide some shade.
At Kaštelet the sea is calm. Loungechairs and umbrella's can be rented and there are showers, toilets and changing rooms at the beach.

It is a 5 to 7 minutes drive to Kaštelet beach.  You can also go there by bus. There is a parking lot nearby.

4. Trstenik beach

Trstenik beach can be found east of Split, between Bacvice beach and Znjan beach. This beach is frequently visited by locals. It is not as crowdy as the other beaches.

This beach has a length of about 400 meters. The beach  is covered with pebbles so take your water shoes.

At the beach you can rent  lounge beds and umbrella's. Also lockers are here to store your  valuables and a lifeguard supervises the beach.

How to get to Trstenik beach:

From Žnjan beach, there is a pedestrian path to Trstenik beach. From Split city center you van also take a taxi ora bus to Trstenik beach. It is a 5 to 7 minutes drive.


5. Bene beach:

Bene beach is popular with families. This beach is covered with rocks and pebbles so take your water shoes. It is located beneath the Marjan hill. There's  slide but also a volleyball field. Iff you are thirsty, just go to one of the cafés to get a drink.

Here you can rent lounge chairs, umbrella's and there are toilets and changing rooms. A life guard makes sure that you stay safe.

How to get to Bene beach:

You can go to Bene beach by car or by bus. (bus number 12) When you go by car, be aware of the fact that you can't drive to the beach.There is a foot path to the beach.


6. Kašjuni beach

Kašjuni beach is situated in the western part of the Marjan peninsula. This beach is the greenest and has a spectacular view. In 2016 the beach was reconstructd. After the reconstruction the beach became very popular which also means that the beach was very crowdy.
This beach is rocky and covered with pebbles so take your water shoes. The pine trees provide some shadow. 

Here you can rent sun loungers and umbrella's. At the beach there are toilets and changing rooms but these too cost some money.

The beach bar is the place to go to when you are thirsty. At the evening the beach bar is the place to go to to dance.

How to get to Kašjuni beach:

You can go to Kašjuni beach by car or bike. There is a large parking lot next to the beach.

How to get to Kašjuni beach:

From Split city center water taxi's bring you to Kašjuni beach in just a few minutes. Are you up for some action? You can also go to the beach by foot. It is a 30 minutes walk.


7. Firule beach

Firule beach is named after the area where this beach is located. This sandy beach is well visited by locals. It is a nice beach to go to for families. Here you find a shallow and clear sea. At the beach there are changing rooms. A small café near the beach is the place to go to when you are hungry or thirsty.

From Split city center it is just 1.5 kilometers to Firule beach. There is a parking place right next to the beach.
